Why don’t we still do this sort of thing (faculty/student forums that is) at the Divinity School? One of my greatest frustrations with the school is the lack of forums for students to discuss their work, especially with scholars from other fields. Without any meaningful intellectual contact with their peers it’s hard for students (at least this student) to keep up their enthusiasm. Shouldn’t it be the purpose of the school to facilitate this? Yet it seems that at almost every opportunity it goes the opposite way. Granted, there is almost no doubt that much of this is the fault of the students themselves (of course, one could ask whether it is the responsibility of the university to nevertheless provide these opportunities)
